Feature: Craigiewave – Whatuthink?

Mirage Records’ newest signing Craigiewave releases debut single WhatUThink
Hailing from Melbourne’s Western Suburbs, Craigiewave is a refreshing new voice to rise from the city’s underground music scene — proudly wearing his Polynesian heritage, his heart and his individuality on his sleeve. With roots in hip-hop, Craigiewave has spent the last few years honing a sound that transcends traditional rap tropes, trading them for a variety of global sounds and influences that span across Grime, Garage, House and Drill. Craigie uses his music to subvert the social norms that might be used to box in a young Polynesian artist in Australia.
Sonically and stylistically Craigie is something of an outlier within his community, documenting his growth as an artist and as an individual through music and touching on a diverse range of topics like family, identity, vulnerability and sexuality.
‘WhatUthink‘ is the first in a series of singles recorded during Melbourne’s extensive 2020 lockdowns and was produced by Melbourne artist Hancoq with additional production from Robert Greenwall, mixing from Dean Tuza and mastered by Andrei Ermin. The track sees Craigiewave glide over slick UK garage influenced production and is the perfect entry point to Craigiewave’s unique sonic palette, offering a glimpse at an exciting series of tracks to come over the remainder of 2021.
