LT - If My Heart Had A Voice
LT’s debut album If My Heart Had A Voice is a deeply personal and ultimately uplifting collection of songs written across some of the most challenging, transformative and unexpected chapters of her life.
It refuses to sit neatly inside a genre box, moving effortlessly between alt-country, euphoric pop, indie-folk, disco, funk and emotionally stripped-back songwriting, often blending several of those worlds within a single track.
More than anything, If My Heart Had A Voice is a journey, an emotional snapshot of where LT was at the beginning of the album and where she finds herself by the end.
The songs capture the highs, lows, heartbreak, anxiety, anger, humour, freedom, self-doubt and hard-won clarity that shaped its creation, taking the listener through the messy reality of change, loss and rebuilding.
What starts in the turbulence of Rollercoaster gradually moves through moments of escape, defiance, joy, heartbreak and self-discovery before ultimately arriving at Breathe a song that feels like the exhale at the end of everything that came before it. It’s a record about surviving difficult chapters, finding your voice within them and, eventually, finding enough space to breathe again.
“If My Heart Had A Voice is the album I never intended to write, but the one I needed to,”
says LT.
“Looking back, I realise these songs became a diary without me ever meaning them to. They were written through seasons that challenged every part of who I was, but they’re not defined by what happened; they’re defined by who I chose to become because of it.”
“This album isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about choosing to keep going when life feels impossibly heavy, trusting that one day you’ll look up and realise you can breathe again. It’s about resilience, finding your voice when it feels impossible to speak, and remembering that no matter what life throws at you, it never gets to write your ending.”
Opening with Rollercoaster, LT immediately establishes the emotional honesty at the heart of the record.
Written about loving someone living with Bipolar disorder, the song explores the exhilaration, fear, tenderness and exhaustion of trying to hold steady while someone you love is being pulled between extremes.
Written with Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe) and Edwin White (Vance Joy), it marked LT’s first co-writing session with the pair and became the beginning of an important creative partnership that would produce several more songs for the album.
The track went on to win categories at both the International Songwriting Competition and Unsigned Only, and earned placement with Marketing Melodies, whose in-store entertainment reaches major retail outlets across Australia and New Zealand.
What began as a song about navigating the turbulence of a relationship now carries an entirely different weight.
“Rollercoaster now feels almost prophetic, What began as a song about navigating the turbulence of a relationship has become the beginning of the story of its ending, and the closing of a chapter I never imagined I would have to close.” LT says.
From there, If My Heart Had A Voice refuses to stay in one emotional or musical place.
Mercy! transforms LT’s social anxiety and dread of small talk into an irresistible electropop rush, blending disco, funk and nostalgic pop. Co-written and co-produced with UK artist and producer Joe White, whom LT first connected with online, the song turns the urge to escape a crowded room into something joyous and danceable.
Act Your Age, LT’s defiant response to an industry that too often suggests women have an expiration date. Born from being told she was too old, that she should be realistic and perhaps find herself a nine-to-five job, the song turns ageism into an anthem of resistance.
“Act Your Age is my two-finger salute to the idea that there is an expiration date on a woman’s dreams,” says LT.
Real Life = No Fun takes a different route entirely. Born during COVID lockdowns, it came from a longing to simply get back on the road, find a beach, drink something cold with friends and remember what it felt like to be alive.
Across eight tracks, If My Heart Had A Voice becomes more than a debut album. It is a document of transformation — a record of what happens when life changes the plan, when the future looks nothing like you expected and when you discover that starting again isn’t the same thing as starting over.
It moves through love and loss, anxiety and ageism, friendship and freedom, self-worth and survival. It moves musically wherever the story needs it to go, from alt-country and indie-folk to pop, disco, funk and stripped-back acoustic moments. And perhaps that is exactly why it refuses to fit neatly into one genre. Because neither did the life that created it.
