Feature: Tjaka - Elevate

Blending elements of electronic, funk and hip-hop with Aboriginal ancestral influences, Tjaka reveal their debut EP Elevate.

Crafting music that is deeply connected to their Aboriginal heritage - The release boasts a range of styles and genre, rich with experimentation and dynamism. 

Reflective of journeys in growth and transformation, and above all, their deep connection to their cultural roots; to Country.

Speaking to the process of Elevate’s making, Tjaka share,
“This EP has evolved into a showcase of the way we can adapt our live energy into different styles of music. There are a number of diverse influences heard through each track, and this best represents our approach to music over the last few years. Working with producers Magoo and Tom Thum on this project has meant we have explored many different ideas and it has been an enjoyable project to piece together.”

Comprising of two Fabila brothers Geoff and Jake, cousin Luke, and close friend Felix Fogarty, Tjaka is derived from “Tjakamarra”, the skin name given to the Fabilas, who are proud descendants of the Jabirr Jabirr tribe in the Western Australian Kimberley.

Blending elements of electronic, funk and hip-hop with Aboriginal ancestral influences, Tjaka’s vision sets out to showcase the connections between the old and the new.
