Nominee Spotlight: Julia Jacklin

In the lead up to this year's 11th annual AIR Awards, we asked Blue Mountains-born, singer/songwriter, Julia Jacklin about her nomination for Breakthrough Independent Artist of the Year.

What’s a fun fact about you/your music that people might not know?

I played saxophone for 6 months when I was 12. Left the band when we had to learn the bob the builder theme song. Felt like it was going to ruin my cred.

What was the first thing you thought of after you found out you had been nominated?

Sweet! If I win I hope it's a trophy for my small trophy shelf.

How would you describe your music or sound to someone who hasn't heard you before?

I'd say, it's me singing about myself whilst playing guitar.

Who would you vote for in the category & why?

D.D Dumbo because his album is wonderful.

If you win, who will you thank in your acceptance speech and why?

My band. For working so hard playing my music everywhere on little sleep.
