The debut album from Sophian, Somewhere In Between‘ delivers six tracks that paint vibrant textures and atmospheric soundscapes, woven with poignant lyricism that delve into themes of love, reflection and nostalgia.

The dynamic sound flows between moments of serenity and electrifying intensity that leaves a lasting emotional imprint.

Lead vocalist Sophian Manik talks about the inspiration behind ‘Somewhere In Between’:

“‘Somewhere In Between’ reflects on my experiences growing up in the Maldives with a Swiss mother and later moving to Australia, capturing the essence of navigating identity and embracing change. The EP delves into struggles of feeling inadequate, the transformative power of personal growth and the resilience needed to embrace change at any age. It’s about the quest for self-discovery and the realisation that it’s never too late to rewrite one’s story. It poignantly portrays the experience of living between worlds, finding meaning in the present while drawing wisdom from the past. I hope the EP can resonate with anyone who has felt caught between different identities or life stages, offering a reminder that we are all, in some way, somewhere in between.”

Knee Deep In The Ocean‘ opens with a warm, weightless aura that shimmers softly with glistening guitars that gracefully ebb and flow. The instrumental break unfolds with spiralling guitar lines weaving a tapestry of light and shadow. ‘Changing The Weather‘ follows, showcasing Sophian Manik’s magnetic vocal presence, while ‘Lotus‘ blooms with lush melodies that paint radiant hues.

Million Miles‘ features Nadene Burchell of King Ibis, where both vocalists harmonise effortlessly, set against an expansive yet intimate backdrop, with glowing synths and resonant harmonies. In ‘Wait For You‘, themes of steadfast devotion ripple through swirling soundscapes, creating a boundless sonic current that feels at once tender and vast. The EP’s focal point, ‘Somewhere In Between‘, closes the collection with a vivid whirlwind of sound that pulses exhilarating momentum, each layer lifting and spinning into a cyclone of colour.
